An Ultrasound scan is excellent at diagnosing many different sports-related injuries. It is quick and dynamic test that can be done at the pitch side or clinic.
Sports related problems can be acute/sudden or chronic due to overuse or prolonged stress and loading.
Our doctors work closely with atheletes of all levels to get an accurate diagnosis and help their path to recovery
What injuries is ultrasound good for?
Muscle tears or rupture
Tendon related injuries
Common injuries diagnosed
Rotator cuff tears
Pectoralis major tear
Biceps tendon injury (proximal or distal)
Hand tendon injury
Thumb ligament injury (UCL Tear)
IT band injury
Patella tendon injury
Achilles tendon rupture
Ankle tendon or ligament injury
Plantar plate injury
The doctor will use the ultrasound probe with a water-based jelly to examine the injury. The scan will produce images which the doctor will interpret and use to give a diagnosis. The procedure is not painful.
Due to COVID working practices, you can bring one person to accompany you in the scanning room.
There will also be a qualified chaperone present in the scan room along with the doctor.
Please dress appropriately to allow for easy access to the body part/joint being examined with ultrasound.
